I finally went out for a decent peddle the other weekend and managed to find a pretty fun and reasonable sized loop. Starting at the park at the end of Highbury Rd I can peddle up the fenceline of the Wildlife Sanctuary to the Brooklyn wind turbine. From there their is a fun little trail called Car Parts which loops down through the trees, mostly downhill but still plenty of peddling required, you don't loose too much altitude which is nice. That track connects back up to the fenceline again and from their there is a short sprint across to Brooklyn where the beginning of Transient (the trail on the map marked in red) is. I was pleasently surprised it offers almost 4kms of pretty fast fun single track descending down through the trees into Aro, and even a few hairy moments too. It is apparently a very popular multi-use track but as my luck had it I didn't see a single soul, and on such a fine day too.
From Aro St its a pretty brutal ride up the streets back home. I did the same loop a couple of evenings later to try out my new night light and heaps of fun in the dark as well, although much slower and many more bugs in the face. I think this might just be my new route to work.
